Dear Friends of Letterpress,
It's been fun, it's been hard - and everything changes.
When I started Speak's Letterpress my goals were simple enough - to pursue a pure form of design free from day to day worry, responsibility and routine.
Somewhere along the way, in my ambition, I forgot about that. I reached out to the community and offered my services commercially. It was a successful effort as I was eager to share my new art. So successful, in fact, that it reached the point that I was faced with the opportunity to print full time. I thank you for that. But success can be suffocating.
I realized that my love for letterpress was so strong that I could never let it consume me as occupation. Occupation is a way of making a living - of being held or possessed. It restricts and binds. It is the antithesis of freedom.
So it became necessary for me to destroy what I had created - in order to save it.
I am in the process of restructuring Speak's Letterpress into something of a Private Press pursuing literary, artistic and traditional endeavors without the burden of profit as motivation. Instead, it is a pursuit of pleasure, interest and love.
I will continue to maintain this website ( as more of a playground ) in order to keep you informed of what The Press is up to and will offer exclusive and seasonal ephemera as well as, eventually, limited edition handprinted publications.
I am excited about this change and I look forward to sharing with you the new adventures of Speak's Letterpress.
Sincerely,
The Manager
