What you see above is the new printers’ device for Speak’s Letterpress. The use of a printers’ device or mark dates as far back as the 15th century. It is used as a trade-mark that is placed by the printer or publisher on the title page or elsewhere in the text of a book or publication. It serves to distinguish the publication from its competition. Speak’s Letterpress designed this mark with intentional primitive overtones – acutely aware that ultimately it is nature that dictates the dynamics of placing ink on paper. It is the objective of this mark to grow as the press grows, perhaps becoming more refined or perhaps changing shape altogether in time.

Speak’s Letterpress is proud to present this new distinguishing printer’s device to the public. Please download the latest prospectus to see the device in use for the first time.

My Daughter handset and printed this broadside for a school project in 18pt. and 14pt. Greeting Monotone. Apparently, Greeting Monotone it is a well sought after fount and not currently being cast. It was printed 3 color on Light Blue Magnani Pescia 300 gsm. I made the block-cut and made sure everything ran right. The edition was limited to about 25. We made a short video of her running the press and she used this as part of her presentation. Design decisions were left up to her, and I think she did a mighty fine job.
